Undertanding Pre Menstrual Syndrome

Pre Menstrual Syndrome or simply PMS is a term used to describe symptoms which occur any time after ovulation. Ovulation happens between the 12th and 15th day of the start of your menstrual cycle. The start of your cycle is indicated when bleeding begins. The symptoms then disappear almost as soon as your period arrives. What you need to check to decide if you suffer from PMS is not what symptoms you are experiencing but rather when in your cycle you have them.

Here are some of the symptoms that can be experienced:

Emotional and behavioral symptoms

  • Mood swings, irritability or anger accompanied by raised tension or anxiety and bouts of crying.
  • Depression can creep in too with possible social withdrawal.
  • Appetite changes and food cravings especially sweet or salty things.
  • Trouble falling asleep (insomnia)
  • Poor concentration
